Our chief guest and speaker will be Chandrika Tandon ji, a business leader, Grammy-nominated artist and humanitarian! Also, we will be featuring Shefali Panicker and Rohith Jayaraman as our performers! Shefali Panicker is a singer from London, Canada. Rohith Jayaraman is a vocalist, composer, arranger, and vocal percussionist steeped in the Carnatic tradition.

We are excited to announce the second performer for Hindu YUVA’s Samuhik Ganesh Utsav!

Rohith Jayaraman is a vocalist, composer, arranger, and vocal percussionist steeped in the Carnatic (South Indian classical) tradition. Since 1999, he has trained in Carnatic music under his mother and guru, Asha Ramesh (a disciple of D.K. Jayaraman). In 2012, Rohith joined Berklee College of Music on a scholarship, where he was one of the early members of the renowned Berklee Indian Ensemble, arranging and composing for the group. After graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Music Therapy in 2015 and interning in Expressive Arts Therapies at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Rohith accepted a staff/faculty role at Berklee as the Assistant Manager of the Berklee India Exchange (BIX), co-directing and touring with the Ensemble.

As a vocalist, composer/arranger, and percussionist, Rohith has performed with internationally acclaimed and award-winning artists such as A.R. Rahman, Zakir Hussain, Shreya Ghoshal, John McLaughlin, Shankar Mahadevan, and Tigran Hamasyan. He has studied under and been mentored by some of the greats of contemporary Carnatic music including Asha Ramesh, R.K. Shriramkumar, Suguna Varadachari, and Vijay Siva. Rohith teaches Carnatic vocal music, theory, and applications throughout the United States.

We are excited to introduce one of the performers for Hindu YUVA’s Samuhik Ganesh Utsav!

Shefali Panicker is a 21-year-old singer from London, Canada. She began singing at the age of 6 under the guidance of her guru, Smt. Shamantakamani Bhashyam, in Carnatic music. Learning classical music gave her the foundation to explore different genres such as Bollywood, Pop, R&B, and regional Indian music. Recently, she began posting short covers on different social platforms, such as TikTok and Youtube, where she has garnered millions of views and over 80,000 followers thus far. She is most well known for her TikTok series in which she combines several languages on 1 beat. Shefali hopes to continue creating music in unique ways while staying close to her Indian roots. Her other passions include classical dance, volunteering, and teaching children religious values through Hindu organizations.

We are excited to introduce the speaker for Hindu YUVA’s Samuhik Ganesh Utsav!

Chandrika Tandon is a business leader, Grammy-nominated artist and humanitarian.

Composer and vocalist, Chandrika, has been trained by masters in Hindustani, Carnatic, and Western Traditions. Her album–Soul Call – topped world music charts, garnering great acclaim, and earning a Grammy nomination. All four of her albums were released under her not-for-profit label, Soul Chants Music.

Her “limpid, serene voice” – as The New York Times describes it – has filled major venues around the world, including Lincoln Center, the Smithsonian, Olympiastadion (Berlin), Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, and the 2016 World Culture Festival in New Delhi – supporting efforts towards peace and harmony.

Chandrika is a recognized leader in the worlds of business, education, and the arts, dedicated to public service. In addition to being founder and head of her financial advisory firm, she is a member of the Board of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the Berklee School of Music’s President’s Council. Additionally, the Berklee Tandon Global Clinics connect world-class music faculty from the US to other countries. At New York University, she is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chair of the President’s Global Council, Chair of the Board of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and she serves on the Boards of the NYU Stern School of Business and the NYU Langone Health System.

Chandrika has received several awards for integrity and leadership–the Gallatin Medal, New York University’s highest honor for outstanding contributions to society; the Walter Nichols Medal for leadership and integrity; and the Polytechnic Medal, recognizing her involvement in science and engineering. In recognition of her efforts on behalf of higher education, she was inducted as a Sterling Fellow at Yale and into the Harold Acton Society of New York University. She was named an Inaugural Distinguished Alumnus of both the IIM Ahmedabad and Madras Christian College-her two alma matters. Chandrika is chair of the krishnamurthy tandon foundation

We are extremely excited to announce that GOPAL PA We are extremely excited to announce that GOPAL PATEL will be the speaker of our eighth and FINAL webinar, “Our Sacred Bhumi: A Hindu View on Environmentalism”. This webinar will be on August 6, 2020 at 8:30PM EST. Hindu philosophy consists of eco-friendly principles and practices and has been passed down through generations. We will be discussing Hindu view of sustainability and some practices Hindus can inculcate and spread awareness about. Gopal Patel serves as Director of the The Bhumi Project – a joint initiative of the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and GreenFaith and also the Co-Chair of The Unites Nations Multifaith Advisory Council. Working with the Hindu community internationally, Bhumi aims to raise awareness and address the environmental challenges facing our planet. Gopal has served in this capacity since 2010 and has helped Bhumi become a leading voice on environmental issues for the global Hindu community. The project has worked on greening Hindu temples and places of worship across India, regularly convenes workshops to train young Hindus on good environmental practices, and is often asked to offer Hindu perspectives on environmental concerns. In the lead-up to the the COP21 Paris Climate Conference in 2015, Bhumi issued the Hindu Declaration on Climate Change, which was endorsed by over 60 major Hindu organizations and leaders globally. Gopal is a graduate of King’s College, London, and has spent time in Hindu ashrams in India and England. He divides his time between Oxford, New York and Mumbai and is based out of New York City.

This session will be moderated by Natasha Patel, a rising Senior studying Physics and College of Letters at Wesleyan University. She is interested in learning more about Hindu perspectives on sustainability.

This webinar will be on August 2, 2020 at 2:00PM EST. Throughout generations, epics have been passed down as cultural treasures. Through the lens of modern language, join us as we unravel the mysteries and philosophies of ancient Hindu epics and how they apply to society today. Amish Tripathi is an author, columnist and diplomat. Described as “India’s Tolkien” by BBC, Amish’s unique combination of crackling storytelling, religious symbolism and profound philosophies has turned him into an Indian publishing phenomenon, with spiritual guru Deepak Chopra hailing Amish’s books as ‘archetypal and stirring’. His books have been translated into 19 Indian and International languages. His Shiva Trilogy is the fastest-selling book series in Indian publishing history while his Ram Chandra Series is the second fastest-selling book series in Indian publishing history. In 2019 he was appointed to a diplomatic role as Director, The Nehru Centre in London, India’s premier cultural centre abroad. Amish is a graduate of IIM-Calcutta and worked for 14 years in the financial services industry before turning to full-time writing.

This session will be moderated by Soham Pant, a rising Senior studying Nuclear Engineering at Penn State University. He is the coordinator of Penn State Hindu YUVA and is working on starting a chapter there. He races with the Penn State road cycling team. Soham is interested in hindu epics and the characters that he has read and heard over many years from his childhood.
We are extremely excited to announce that DRISHTI We are extremely excited to announce that DRISHTI MAE will be the speaker of our fifth webinar, “The Divine Shakti: The Journey of Femininity in Hinduism.” This webinar will be on July 19, 2020 at 2:00PM EST. Please note that this webinar will happen at a different time than the previous ones since our speaker is from the UK. We will be discussing Femininity, Womanhood, and Social Issues in the Hindu Society. Drishti Mae is the President of the National Hindu Students’ Forum (UK). Founded 29 years ago, NHSF (UK) is active in almost half of all universities in the UK and reaches over 10,000 students annually through its activities. Drishti is passionate about the space that universities can provide for students to explore Dharmic values and their identity during their formative years. A graduate of Chemistry from the University of York, and the Unilever Future Leaders’ programme, Drishti now works in technology at Unilever in the UK.

This session will be moderated by Vidhima Shetty, a rising sophomore studying Financial Economics and English at Columbia University. She is the President of Columbia Hindu YUVA and has written a book about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Vidhima is interested in the concepts of Shakti and womanhood in Hinduism and to learn about stories related to this topic in Hinduism.
